Xerochlora martinaria (Sperry, 1948.) [7080]

Xerochlora martinaria, adult female, collected Coronado NF, Chiricahua Mountains, Cave Creek RA,
Cochise Co., AZ, 16-Aug-2006.
This species is very similar in size and general appearance to Xerochlora inveterascaria, and is most reliably distinguished by genitalic dissection. Ferguson (1985) offered two useful characteristics to assist in identification of X. martinaria: generous sprinkling of purple-brown scales along the yellow costal margin of the forewing and in the female two pairs of apical spurs on the hindtibia. Both of these features can be observed in the photo below. X. martinaria is also said to have a somewhat more restricted geographic range than inveterascaria.
