Synchlora gerularia (Hübner, 1823). [7060.1]

Synchlora gerularia, collection of Carnegie Museum of Natural History.
Specimen collected January 1995, Chichen Itza, Yucatan, Mexico.
In size and wing markings, this species very closely resembles Synchlora xysteraria. These two species can be most reliably distinguished by dissection of male gentialia, which Ferguson figures in his 1985 MONA fascicle. Synchlora gerularia is a species of the tropics and is reported to extend as far south as Argentina. Ferguson reported that confirmed US records exist only for Texas. (Synchlora xysteraria, in contrast, is known from Florida in the US and from the Bahamas)
