Nemoria pulcherrima, 16-January-1912 San Diego CA
Collection of the Carnegie Museum of Natural History

Nemoria pulcherrima is a distinctive Nemoria species of California. It is one of a small number of North American Nemoria species with hindwings that are pale green or nearly white in contrast to the brighter green forewings (Nemoria diamesa and Nemoria albaria also have this general contrasting wing coloration). Nemoria pulcherrima also has been collected in a brown adult form, with coloration similar to the brown forms of  Nemoria bistriaria and Nemoria elfa, though it has not been clearly established as a seasonal or temperature-dependent adult form.

This interesting article in pdf format documents important variability within this species.
