Nemoria festaria, final instar larva, green form, reared ex ovum on Rhus trilobata. Parent female collected Ramsey Canyon,  Cochise Co., AZ, 30 Jun 2008. Nemoria festaria, same larva as shown at left, dorsolateral view. Note the strongly forward tilt of tapering, pointed dorsolateral protuberances on A2/A3
Nemoria festaria, final instar larva, brown form, reared ex ovum on Quercus leaves and catkins. Parent female collected Ramsey Canyon,  Cochise Co., AZ, 30 Jun 2008. Nemoria festaria, same larva as shown at left, dorsal view. Note the red brown coloration on dorsal surfaces.
At left, mature Nemoria festaria larva in silvered red brown and tan, reared on late season Rhus trilobata.
At left, new ova of Nemoria festaria attached to oak leaf surface. Egg color often changes slightly with time, especially in the 1-2 days immediately prior to larval emergence.
