Chloropteryx nordicaria (Schaus, 1901). [7076]

Chloropteryx nordicaria superficially resembles the eastern / southeastern U.S. species Chloropteryx tepperaria. The ground color of the wing is a gray-green with a dark reddish-brown terminal line at the wing margins.  It can be distinguished from C. tepperaria by the heavy black discal spots on all four wings adn by the overall brown shading along the dorsal surface of the abdome. In contrast, C. tepperaria has a distinct single brown spot on the first abdominal segment. Chloropteryx nordicaria also has a limited distribution in the US, having been recorded only from Texas. Ferguson (1985) reports it is "primarily a Mexican species" and the specimen photographed here was collected in Jalisco state, Mexico.
